Please find below the answers to some of our most frequent questions.
Where do I mail the required copies for the subvention awards?
Department of Art & Archaeology
Attention: Barr Ferree Fund
45 Elm Drive
Princeton, NJ 08544
Can I get a small extension of time for my application?
Unfortunely, our deadlines are firm. We offer two application cycles (November 15 and April 15), which we hope will accommodate your needs.
My expenses are higher than expected, can I request a change to the amount awarded in my grant?
No, the committee meets twice a year to review all applications submitted during that application cycle. Committee decisions are final, regardless of economic changes.
Can a press receive an advancement on their subvention grant to off-set costs?Subvention grants are paid after the Department of Art & Archaeology receives the two required complimentary copies of the publication, and after verification of the required credit line.
Can reproduction fees be used towards indexing?
No, the primary function of this funding source is to off-set the costs associated with the usage or reproduction of images (Artwork, photography, architectural drawings, etc.). Indexing, copyediting, researching, and other expenses are not eligible for reproduction fee funding.
Do faculty members in the Department of Art & Archaeology need a letter of support from the chair?
The chair of the Department of Art & Archeology resides over the Barr Ferree committee. A&A faculty should inform the chair in writing that they will be applying for a reproduction or subvention grant, but a letter is not required. The chair will speak to the merit of your research at the committee meeting.
What is the wording of the required credit line, and where should it go?
The required credit line in the book or on the CD/album/DVD should read:
This publication is made possible in part by the Barr Ferree Foundation Fund for Publications, Department of Art and Archaeology, Princeton University.
Failure to include this required credit line will result in forfeiture of funding.
The credit line should be included on the copyright page of the book or near the copyright information on a CD/DVD/record jacket.
How do I seek reimbursement for my reproduction fees?
1. Please fill out a guest reimbursement request form with your itemized purchases, and include currency exchange rates if the purchase was made in another currency.
2. Email the guest reimbursement form and accompanying receipts (as one PDF document) to bferree@princeton.edu.
Our colleagues in Shared Services (accounts payable) may follow-up if needed.
